Nuku Hiva, the same Nukahiva, is the largest of the Marquesas Islands in the French Polynesia territory. The total surface area of Nuku Hiva is 330 sq km.
Located the Pacific Ocean, Nuku Hiva is one of the more-visited islands of the Marquesas and is the main island in the northern archipelago. Town Taiohae serves as administrative and economic center. On the opposite coast of Taiohae, to the north-west of the island there is an airport.
Nuku Hiva has remained an unspoiled island with spell-binding archaeological sites and natural landscapes to offer.
The mysterious islan is rich of archeological ruins, there is a waterfal: the Hakaui Falls (has a height of 350 meters), shooting out from the mountainside and dropping into natural pools below.
It worth to mention about Muake Hill (864 m.) which offers a nice view of the whole bay of Taiohae, Taipivai, Hatihue Bay and Anaho Bay one of the loveliest spots in the Marquises Islands where you can find several families living in the valley.
The absence of a barrier reef causes masses of ocean fauna.
